Antique Macclesfield English Silk Pocket Square - Red Paisley
  • Pure English Silk Made in Macclesfield, England during the 1950's-1960's
  • Hand cut and hand folded
  • Squares so uniquely made, you can't help but notice that each has its own individual character.

Macclesfield was known as the silk capital of England - now but a footnote in the history books. The weavers were renowned for their great talents in the weaving and designing of silks. As was the tradition of the day, some squares were hand rolled at the edges; others stitched using the slow, old-fashioned sewing machines of the times as can be seen in the photos. To our good fortune, this small lot of antique pocket squares was discovered in the corner of an old warehouse under renovation. We were lucky enough to acquire the entire batch and are quite pleased to offer this small bit of historic excellence to our clients.

The hand-rolled silk square is one of the obvious differences between simply dressing ... and dressing elegantly. It is expected that a properly dressed gentleman will be wearing a tie. The extra thought of a pocket square sets apart those who consider their dress to be more than just checking the required boxes.

Complimentary or coordinated? It is not necessary that the pocket square match all of the colors of your tie and/or socks. More interesting is to select one or two predominant colors which are well matched and then let the individual character of each accessory make a statement of its own. A bit of experimentation with the color wheel - orange compliments purple - will serve you well.
